When Mari Gilbert's daughter Shannan disappeared, she demanded answers. Shannan was last seen on a 'date' with someone who'd placed an ad on Craigslist. After receiving a mysterious telephone call, Mari realized Shannan was missing - but police were disinterested in the case because she'd been working as an escort.
Mari Gilbert - played by Emmy-winning actress Kim Delaney - became a mom on a mission ... a mission to find her daughter.
She ended up exposing an unknown series of serial killings in which as many as 16 women's bodies were found in shallow graves near Long Island, New York beaches.
The film, inspired by real life events, is Lifetime Television's 400th 'ripped from the headlines' movie. Joining Kim Delaney is Eugene Clark as private investigator "Herc" Zinneman; John Cassini as Detective Varrone; Patrick Sabongui as Police Chief James Burke; and Jason Gray-Stanford as Joel Rubin
The Long Island Serial Killer: A Mother's Hunt for Justice is produced by Lighthouse Pictures, with Sony Pictures Television distributing. Executive producers include Emmy® Award winner Deborah Norville and Peabody Award winner Elizabeth Stephen. Directed by Stan Brooks, the script is written by John Pielmeier.
