Heroes, Scoundrels, and Oddballs from 25 Years of Inside Edition
When we did the math, we realized Inside Edition has been on the air for 25 years! To mark the occasion, I came up with a BIG list of all sorts of ways we could commemorate this television milestone. The bosses ignored every one of my suggestions ... except one: The Book.
I went through the archives, dug out old scripts, and dusted off old tapes from which we found some of our earliest work. On our very first show, we made an impact. We reported on a man who was wrongly convicted of murder and sentenced to death row. A few weeks later, a court freed him! With that kind of result out of the starting gate, we knew we were on to something.
And that something has been a little bit of everything. We've covered the (many!) women who want to look like Barbie and the surgeons who'll take their money to make that happen! We've interviewed some of the most sinister characters out there -- Jeffrey Dahmer, David Berkowitz, Sirhan Sirhan -- just to name a few.
And critters, do we love critters! Narcoleptic dogs, pets with plastic surgery, the buffalo who lives in the bedroom -- if it's got feathers or fur and does something unusual, it's right up our alley! Plus - our favorites: The regular everyday people who come under the spot light and inspire us with their dignity and grace.
It's all part of who we are ... which is why I call the book The Way We Are. It's a generation of television -- a quarter-century look back at what we've found interesting. The good, the bad, and the goofy.
